“Dear Mary Jane,
How come some of the new medicine I picked up smells like pot and some of it doesn’t? Some of it is darker, too! Is something wrong with it? I’ve been taking my oil and it works, even upped my dose and it seems to work even better, but everything else here looks different. Like the oil in the other pens and syringes. Not sure what to do!”
From, P. Sue (Diverticulitis Patient)
No, P! Unless there is something you are leaving out, there’s probably nothing wrong with your medicine! Varying levels of cannabinoids and terpenes in each strain do produce different smells and flavors as well as colors in those concentrates, and the different processes for making the different forms of medicinal and recreational cannabis can alter the final product, as well. The presence of chloryphyll and other parts of the plant will also contribute to any differences you may see. One very noticeable example would be with Rick Simpson Oil (RSO): if you have regular RSO, which is made from the whole plant, you will notice how dark it is compared to cannabinoid distillates, or even other concentrated forms – such as this Lemon Skunk pull-n-snap pictured here.
